Living in Community
Abigail Circle meets the first Wednesday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the church parlor. (September-May) It is an extension of United Methodist Women and members support various mission projects and engage in a study selected by the women.

United Methodist Women meets the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the home of one of our members. United Methodist Women’s major fundraiser is the making of coconut and peanut butter chocolate eggs for Easter. Fillings are made ahead of time, and on the 6 Mondays preceding Easter each year, the women work in the church kitchen making as many as 500 eggs a week. In the fall, they come together to make apple pies. The UMW woman spend hours making pie shells, in preparation for the big days. Hundreds of pies are then sold throughout the Thanksgiving season.
Apple Pie Sale The apple crumb pie sale has been going on for over 40 years. The pies are made by members of the church and sold on “Pie Days”–one Monday in October and November. Members make the crusts and crumb topping ahead of time and 57 bushels of apples are ordered to make the pies. On Pie Days, we peel and slice apples, put them into pie shells and wrap them to sell. All afternoon (2:00-5:00 pm.) customers arrive to pick up the unbaked pies they ordered which they can take home to bake immediately or freeze for later. We typically sell over 1,000 pies with the help of about 40 people on Pie Days and 10% of the money goes to missions while the other 90% is donated to the church.
Football Concession Stand (Home games only, PSU football season schedule)
Each fall, our church staffs a concession stand in the Penn State football stadium. Approximately 20 volunteers arrive at Beaver Stadium two hours or more before the game, cook and sell sandwiches, snacks and beverages during the game, count final inventories and clean up afterward. The church benefits by receiving 13% of the total sales from our stand.
Penn State requires that concession stand workers be at least 16 years old. Volunteers are expected to maintain good food safety practices. Cooks preparing sandwiches, fries and pretzels should wear gloves available in the stand. Workers should carefully distinguish between inventory and non-inventory items in the concession stand. Each volunteer is allowed to eat one sandwich (inventory item) during the game. Other, non-inventory items like French fries, popcorn, or soft drinks in personal or courtesy cups are available for snacking as well.
Admission tickets are provided and parking passes are available. Some car pooling is necessary since we are allotted about 1 parking pass for two concession stand volunteers. On game day volunteers enter the stadium through the Employee Entrance near gate E. To enter, you must have a ticket and a photo ID. Proof of age may be required of younger volunteers. Carry-in items are restricted the same as for all others entering Beaver Stadium. For security reasons, things like purses, backpacks and umbrellas are not allowed. The general guideline is to put carry-in items in a 1 gallon clear plastic bag. If there is an excluded item that you need to have in the stand for the game you may contact Ed Mills during the week before the game to arrange for taking it into the Stadium before Friday.

Election Day Soup Sale
Election Day Soup Sale Each year, on election day in November, our church serves as a polling place. For the last several years, we have offered various kinds of soup for sale near the voting site. One quart Styrofoam containers are made available to any member of the congregation who would like to make soup. Proceeds go the church’s general fund.
Christmas Bazaar – Our annual Christmas Bazaar is changing with some exciting new happenings! The date of this year’s bazaar is Saturday, December 7. It has always been on the first Friday of December, with a half day on Saturday, but this year it will be Saturday only, from 9 am – 3 pm. We welcome vendors for this year’s bazaar too. We will have a wide assortment of crafters on both floors of the church.
Our church will have an expanded booth on the lower floor of the church, exhibiting our wreaths, arrangements, handmade sewing and knitting crafts, and other Christmas items. Along with our usual jewelry area, we will have our huge bake sale, and down the hall, our book sale, along with
some other unique treasures. The main upper floor of the church will host more vendors and our usual
lunch will be held in the area to the right of the sanctuary in the social hall that we call the Prism. It features sandwiches, delicious soups, and scrumptious desserts. Please plan to come and bring your friends to do all your Christmas shopping in one place!
The articles that we start with are things that have been donated, (by church and non-church members), things that we have picked up at yard sales, and pieces that have been created by committee members and others. Our goal is to present a huge variety of useful, decorative and gift items, collectibles, books, etc. for sale. In addition, we have a huge bake sale, where many folks buy their Christmas goodies. Many of our members donate the baked goods as well as food for the lunch counter, because of course, while shopping, one needs a place to have lunch, and we have that, too! With a selection of homemade soups, freshly made sandwiches, and pies, it is nice to sit and have a leisurely lunch while visiting with friends and neighbors that you may not have seen since last year’s bazaar.
Our bazaar has been in existence since the late 60’s. It serves the dual purpose of bringing extra income to the church and bringing us together in fellowship.
Chocolate Easter Egg Sale The chocolate-covered peanut butter and coconut egg project has been going on for around 30 years. The eggs are made once a week for six weeks during Lent and are available during all of Lent. People may order ahead of time or purchase from church members who are selling them. We usually have 25 people to mix ingredients, shape eggs, dip them in chocolate, cool and trim them. We sell between 3,000-4,000 eggs annually and proceeds go to the United Methodist Women, often to finance mission projects.
Easter Pancake Breakfast Our Easter Pancake Breakfast has been a tradition since 1976. The men of the church prepare and serve a pancake and sausage breakfast between our special, early service and the traditional 9:15 service. The items are donated by members and by area merchants, so we have offered the breakfast free with donations suggested to the Church Improvement Fund. These donations help pay for necessary church repairs and improvements. Each year we need cooks, table wranglers, servers, and customers. This is good fellowship activity for our helpers and for families and friends visiting for Easter.
Community Yard Sale (first Saturday in May)
It has been a tradition for many years for families of the church to go camping one weekend of the summer at Greene Hills Campground in Alexandria, PA. Besides the traditional tubing we do each year, there will also be activities at the pavilion for campers to participate in.
Saturday night we have our traditional shared meal with bring-your-own hot dogs to roast and a dish to share. There will be a short camp fire worship followed by s’mores. Non-campers are welcome for the shared meal and all day Saturday.
Vacation Bible School
Children ageing from 4 years old to 5th grade.
Vacation Bible School is an evening program that typically runs late July or early August. We offer a station approach where the children move in groups between a Bible story center, a Theme center, Games, Snack, and Art center. We have an excellent volunteer to child ratio: about 1:1. A fun time is had by all.
Light Supper is offered 5:30-6:00 p.m. Vacation Bible School Program is held 6:00-8:30 p.m. VBS is typically held the first full week of August. For more information, please call 237-9330.
